The incident took place around 4 a.m. Monday when a Fairfield police officer patrolling the area of Pequot Avenue observed a suspicious vehicle traveling on Westway Road, said Fairfield Police Lt. Robert Kalamaras.
As the officer began to investigate, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed down Old South Road. While the officer was traveling west on Pequot Avenue the suspect vehicle swerved into the officer's lane and struck the police car head-on, Kalamaras said.
Three men fled from the vehicle, while two women remained in the vehicle and were apprehended by responding officers, he added.
Westport Police K-9 responded to assist with a track and led officers to the area of Westford Drive. Officers set up a perimeter and located all three subjects in the area of Westford Drive.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle they were operating was stolen from Waterbury. Contents located in the stolen vehicle led to the discovery of several thefts to motor vehicles in the area of Henderson Road, and a stolen Mercedes Benz from Cedar Road, Kalamaras said.
The officer was not injured.
Those arrested included:
- Jose Diaz, 19, address unknown. He was charged with risk of injury to a minor, criminal attempt at assault, two counts of burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny and interfering with a police officer, in addition to numerous traffic violations. He is being held on $20,000 bond.
- Joseph Frazier, 20, address unknown. He was charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, two counts of larceny, two counts of conspiracy to commit larceny, and Interfering with an officer. He is currently being held in lieu of $10,000 bond.
- Averie Reyes, 18, address unknown, She was charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, two counts of larceny, and two counts of conspiracy to commit larceny. She is being held on $2,500 bond.
- Jasmine Stith, 20, address unknown. He was charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, two counts of larceny, and two counts of conspiracy to commit larceny. She is being held on $10,000 bond.
All are scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 16.
A 15-year-old juvenile was also arrested and charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, two counts of larceny, and two counts of conspiracy to commit larceny.
They were transferred to the Hartford Juvenile Detention Center and are scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 29.
The Fairfield Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision with the police car.
